Campbell is likely seeking for something in the 4-5 million dollar area every season, which is nearly double what the Leafs initially offered.
I believe $5 million is excessive for a player who has played for a season and a half and will be 31 by the middle of next season. Campbell has a 48-12-8 record with a save percentage of.917, a GAA of 2.39, and 7 shutouts in 71 games over the past two seasons. Not bad numbers, but his health is a concern because he has yet to stay healthy for an entire season.
The Leafs will most likely try to trade Mrazek, who earns $3.8 million a season, and give Erik Kallgren or Joseph Woll the backup role. Keeping Campbell will be easier if Mrazek's 3.8 million is released.
Campbell and the Leafs could agree on a four-year agreement worth between 3.8 and 4.4 million dollars per season, as this will be Campbell's only big payoff.
